Mindfulness: Tool for Positive Change

With my new baby around, I am careful of where my mind wanders. I refrain from thinking about the past, or whenever I do, I snap my fingers and say, “STOP!” That’s when my senses are redirected to the present. It’s important that my senses are back to the present, or my thoughts would be cloudy.

I read from an article that being attuned with the present is called MINDFULNESS, and is considered a tool for positive change.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of becoming more aware of the present moment, rather than dwelling in the past or projecting into the future. It generally involves a heightened awareness of sensory stimuli (really noticing your breathing, feeling the sensations of your body, etc.) and being “in the now.”

It is attained through:

.. Meditation, but one can also practice mindfulness through daily living. Simply focusing on the present moment and quieting your inner dialogue can help you attain mindfulness.

This entry reminds me to finish reading Dr. Spencer Johson’s book, The Present (The Gift That Makes You Happier And  More Successful At Work And In Life, Today!). Yay! And the Book Reading Challenge that I joined prior to my childbirth…woot, I have to hurry up in reading a myriad of books because I got a deadline from the challenge to finish 100+ books until Dec. 31 of this year.
