Dear Baby,

You’re talking with Daddy right now. Actually, you got the phone from Mommy as I was speaking with Daddy. You’d cry when I’d get back the phone from you.

Daddy’s a bit down today. He’s having a hard time in getting his driving license. The Ministry was telling the messenger to bring back the certificate to the Embassy for authentication, when it was already authenticated. Money. Money. Anyway, glad that you’re cheering up Daddy.

Yesterday, you really caught us by surprise, baby. I burst into tears when you learned how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet. WOW. Congratulations.

You also learned a new word last night – see? Yes, with that correct intonation of saying it – SEE? Hehe. You’re really impressive, baby! You’re always making us proud of you.

T H E  53rd  L E T T E R

Dear Baby,

I LOVE YOU, Baby.

I’M VERY SORRY, TOO.

Here I am at 1:12a.m. in our living room and in front of my laptop, writing a letter to you again, telling you how much I love you, and how sorry I am for being a bad mother at times.

Mommy is just exhausted. You don’t seem to grow well. It’s because you don’t want to eat at all. I understand that you’re at the age wherein you seem to be a picky eater and that you want to exercise your independence. But, my lovely baby, you’ve been like that since you’re two months old.

Daddy and Mommy were talking last night about you – how you’ve been when you’re still a small baby. You didn’t want to be massaged; you’d arch your back; you’d stand when you’re being diapered even when it’s already soiled with wee or poop; you wouldn’t take your vitamins; you wouldn’t drink your milk; you wouldn’t want to be bathed…

And, yes, my darling, now that you’re a toddler – you’re 15 months old now, you still love to act independently. Ahh, I need to add to the above list that you wouldn’t want your fingernails to be cut! Now you have monster nails both in your hands and toes. T H E  46th L E T T E R

Dear Baby,

This is my 2nd letter for you today!

I just want to tell you that you really amazed Mommy and Daddy awhile ago. You were going out of the room when Mommy suddenly asked you, “where are you going?” in a normal accent. You suddenly clapped your hands to the rhythm of the clapping in Dora the Explorer. Daddy and Mommy repeated the words again. You clapped again.

We were also amazed when suddenly you got up from our bed and you started tapping your feet. Wow. You must be remembering something that you have watched in Barney! Mommy just couldn’t figure it out yet. Unsure of myself, I just sang the song, “if you’re happy and you know it stomp your feet” and you continued tapping your feet.

You also shocked us when suddenly you attempted to point on the blank wall – as if imagining that you’re reading, rather, sounding off the alphabet “aaa” “baaa” hehe. That’s so cool. We’re reminded then to put the alphabet anywhere around our house. Mommy thought you’re not interested in learning so Mommy put on hold the teaching of the alphabet in your blackboard. But Mommy will resume it again. Although it seems you don’t seem to pay attention, you are absorbing everything; you just show them after a few hours or days. WOW. Mommy’s so right in teaching you at an early age.

While at the bed, too, you pointed on the figures and letters in the counting book and started to “read”. You sounded off the letters of the alphabet! So cutteeeeee, baby.

Comes Friday, we’ll buy the rubber alphabet at Daiso. Your old rubber alphabet is no longer complete so Mommy didn’t put it back on our wall when we transferred to our new flat.

Oh, I remember this morning, it was a success to bath you without crying! Haha. After your breakfast, as usual your face and body are covered with food, Mommy washed you at the lavatory. You didn’t see the green basin that we use to bath you so you probably thought that Mommy would just wash your face and hands. Then I thought of washing your hair. I got the shampoo and the baby bath from the bathroom. You were not aware what would happen next. I bathed you right there and then. You were about to cry, but, didn’t do so. I wonder why. Next time I’ll do the same. But, ahh, I wish you’d not cry when I bath you, baby. When you were young, you’re crying every time I remove you from the basin. Now, every time you see that we’re about to take a bath, you wail at once. :d

This is all for now, baby. Mommy has to wash your bottles.

I didn’t know that the month of March would be my delivery date; I thought I would deliver on April 1st or until the 2nd week of April. This is my last letter to my baby (in my womb). After I delivered her, I realized I didn’t write any letter for her.

The habit of writing her letters would now be resumed since I already transformed this blog into a natural letter machine . I will update this blog with natural letters from a mother’s heart. While rewriting the old letters in this blog, I was able to reminisce what I had gone through during my pregnancy. I also realized that writing letters for my baby would be a great way to show how she’s been doing during her period in my womb, during her infancy, and toddler years. Most probably, during her teenage years and grownup years, I would still be writing her letters.

T H E  12th  L E T T E R

March 11, 2009@ 12:20p.m.

Dear Baby,

Forgive me for I haven’t written you letters for almost two months! But know that deep inside mommy’s heart, I have a lot to share with you. I have been talking with you everyday, calling your name, and letting you hear Christian songs, nursery rhymes, and audio stories from Story Nory for the past months.

Mommy just celebrated her birthday last Friday, and that coincided with Daddy’s and Mommy’s 5th year Church wedding anniversary.

Last month, I saw you for the first time at the SONAR! Wow! You’re so beautiful. The doctor said you just looked like Mommy, but I hope you got Daddy’s nose. We shared your picture to our families back home, and they were so excited to see you, too.

Three weeks from now, you’ll come out from Mommy’s womb! Whoa! We have finally decided to go to the public hospital, which people say is more equipped at a much lesser cost than the private hospital.

We’ve been blessed with people, new friends here.

All in all, Mommy got 6 OBGynes in this order: Dr. Kh, Dr. C. Dr. Z, Dr. S, Dr. H, and Dr. Ki. I will meet Dr. Ki on March 15 as she will hopefully be the attending physician on Mommy’s labor and delivery of you, baby.

Mommy gained weight – now at 54kg! Thank God because that meant you are gaining weight, too. I was afraid last January because I hardly gained weight. I will know your weight maybe tonight or tomorrow.

Baby, I want you to know that Daddy and Mommy love you so much! We’re so excited to see you. Everyone in our families back home is excited to see you, too.

This is all for now. Mommy is eating spaghetti, and later, beef steak.
